Hertford is the county town which gives it's name to Hertfordshire in South England. Its history dates back at least to the 6th century AD. It has always been an important local town, from the first synod of Bishops to the founding of Hertford castle, to its growth as a pivotal market town. Today it is home to Hertfordshire County Council and many residents commute to London due to its excellent transport links.

There are two train stations, with services running to Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale, Finsbury Park, and Kings Cross as well as direct services to Letchworth and Stevenage. There is access to the A414 onto the M1 and M25 and A119 to the A10 onto the M11 and M25.  It is also within easy reach of Stanstead airport and there are plenty of bus and coach services. The area is well known for its good selection of restaurants, pubs and clubs and there is a local swimming pool and gym facilities.
